Greetings!  I'm Jeff Altom, the owner of Artisan Home Design.  As a building designer with over two decades of experience, my focus is creating homes tailored to how you truly live so your family can thrive.

Homes and design have been my passion since childhood, with my early school projects involving houses made from clay and passive solar science experiments.  I was fortunate to be able to learn from helping my dad as he taught me his love of creating things and the importance of doings things well.

So while my professional path led me to a successful career in technology instead of architecture, I spent much of that time helping friends and family design new homes and redesign existing spaces. After the sale of my first tech company in 2002, I was blessed to be able to switch careers and pursue my passion full-time, starting a home design/build firm in Wisconsin.

Over the next 10 years we completed more than 65 new homes and remodeling projects, working with great clients and refining my process for design, budgeting and planning.  Things were going well until the Great Recession made life really difficult for my company and thousands of other small builders across the country. While we survived the downturn and stayed busy, I made the difficult decision to close the business in 2012.

So back I went to the tech field to help rebuild a small IT company and create solutions for those clients ... while also continuing my home design services on the side.  Having transitioned that company to new owners, I've once again been blessed to pursue my passion for helping clients create homes that work for their families and enhance their lives!

When I'm not drawing house plans or helping clients plan for improving their homes, you'll find me working on my own house, hanging out with our grandkids, or hiking around the Blue Ridge Mountains with my wife Stephanie from our home base in Roanoke, Virginia.
